March saw a considerable increase to the prices being paid for scrap cars, April however has been hit by a decrease. The average value of a scrap car dropped by €22, that’s a 12% decrease compared to March’s strong prices of €180. Though prices are down month on month, they are however up year on year, as we’d expect as this time last year the impact of the Coronavirus lockdown was really effecting things. Prices are up by a staggering 128% compared to April last year!
The value of your scrap car depends on the global demand for scrap metal, as well as the make, model, age, weight, condition, location of your car.
About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Ireland. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The most common vehicle scrapped at CarTakeBack branches across Ireland was the Ford Focus, making it the tenth consecutive month! The average value of Ford Focuses decreased by 14%, to €133 from €155 seen in March.
As we know, the top spot is still being strongly held by the Ford Focus, there have been some changes to the other makes and models of vehicles that compile the top five cars being scrapped with CarTakeBack.
Tip: you can move this table side to side on mobile devices if required.
